Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2-3 drops red food coloring
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Instructions
 

  • Heat milk in saucepan over medium heat
  • Whisk egg yolks with sugar until pale
  • Mix cornstarch with small amount of milk
  • Add cornstarch mixture to egg yolk mixture
  • Temper hot milk into egg mixture slowly
  • Return mixture to saucepan and cook gently
  • Stir constantly until mixture thickens nicely
  • Remove from heat when custard coats spoon
  • Add vanilla extract and butter immediately
  • Stir in food coloring for pink color
  • Strain custard through fine mesh strainer
  • Pour into individual serving cups carefully
  • Cover with plastic wrap touching surface
  • Refrigerate for at least two hours
  • Serve chilled and enjoy this delicious treat

  1. Keep heat low so eggs don't cook too fast
