Ingredients
  

  • 6 cups crumbled cornbread
  • 4 slices white bread torn up
  • 1 large onion chopped
  • 3 celery stalks chopped
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 3 cups chicken broth
  • 2 eggs beaten
  • 1 tablespoon sage
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Instructions
 

  • Heat oven to 375°F.
  • Grease your baking dish well.
  • Put crumbled cornbread in large bowl.
  • Add torn bread pieces.
  • Heat butter in pot.
  • Cook onions until soft.
  • Add celery and cook 5 minutes.
  • Pour in chicken broth.
  • Boil mixture, then remove from heat.
  • Mix in beaten eggs and seasonings.
  • Pour over bread in bowl.
  • Mix everything together gently.
  • Put mixture in baking dish.
  • Cover with foil and bake 30 minutes.
  • Remove foil, bake 15 more minutes.
  • Let cool 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Use day-old cornbread for best results
  • Don't mix too hard or it gets mushy
  • Add broth slowly until mixture holds together
  • Taste before baking and adjust seasoning
